The school year is coming to an end, and the students in class 2-9 perform a little ceremony to reinforce their friendship. Unfortunately, this ceremony calls the attention of an evil spirit, causing an earthquake that traps the students in a cursed school… a school that was torn down after a spate of murders and suicides. Stranded with no food or water and harried by ghosts and a pervasive and creeping malign influence, the students need to figure out how to escape before killing each other or themselves.
Originally developed in RPG Maker for the PC-98, Corpse Party doesn’t look like much. The 16-bit chibi art style, at first glance, doesn’t seem like a vehicle for horror. But the magic is in the writing, which gleefully describes scenes of grotesquery and hopelessness in a way that grabs ahold of your imagination.
