Simon Jarrett knows that he is going to die, and he figures that offering up a brain scan is a way to help others with his terminal brain condition. But as he sits in the chair for his scan, he is flashed into a nightmarish world below the sea. There are no humans, but there are machines that think they are human. A black substance is metastasizing through the complex. And he has to get a crash course in existential AI theory.
SOMA is what Frictional decided to work on after the resounding success of the Amnesia games. It didn’t work for me on my first play, but this stream helped me come to terms with what really works about this particular intimate brand of terror.
