The success of Myst inspired a lot of adventure game developers to follow suit with their own austere, lonely, pre-rendered exploration games. Even Myst itself inspired a sense of dread and paranoia, so it makes sense that others could use its formula to tell explicitly scary stories.
Amber: Journeys Beyond is our first Myst clone, and it’s unfortunate that I could not complete the game. Technical issues abound, as is too common with games from this era. Here’s what we know so far: our protagonist is called to a mansion in North Carolina where a scientist named Dr. Roxanne Westbridge has developed a device that allows living humans to enter the minds of ghosts.
